Hall refurbishment for installation of vehicles
Plan only
2022
We were working on a massive industrial hall, built in the early 1950s, of the Hungarian Defence Forces. Our task was to produce a so-called “thermal envelope” to insulate the hall; this also necessitated making plans for the load-bearing structure. The building may even be considered a protected industrial monument today. Since its construction, it has been used to repair and maintain Soviet-Russian armored vehicles, such as tanks. With an area of approximately 7000 square meters, its central nave is 14 meters high. The hall has a reinforced concrete frame, with reinforced concrete elements as internal dividers. It is equipped with a crane. The total area of the hall requiring insulation is approximately 20,000 square meters. Some of the internal divider structures and their waterproofing had been completely destroyed. There was no thermal insulation whatsoever, yet the entire enclosed area of the building was continuously being heated, at least to a minimum temperature, using natural gas as the primary energy source. This was a highly unusual but exciting project for which we produced plans, but we have no knowledge of whether or not the construction was completed. We can only hope that the Hungarian Defence Forces are run with a higher degree of efficiency than this project or how this facility is operated.
