Water tower – thesis project
Plan only
2002
I graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics in 2002. My thesis focused on the utilization of a landmark water tower that watches above Tahi út and has been deserted for decades. According to my design, the solid section of the tower was to function both as studio space for visual art and as a café, with a newly built observation deck up top. The water tower continues to stand abandoned to this very day, but its surroundings are occupied by the Raliway Museum that is full of nostalgic flair. My opponent was László Rajk, who passed away in 2019, with Ádám Sylvester as chairman of the examination committee. I learned a lot from both over the years since. Designing the water tower is but a sweet memory, one that was taken extremely seriously back then.
