Five apartments in a loft conversion, Andrássy avenue, Budapest
Plan only
2009
Working with architect Ádám Sylvester, we elaborated the concept plans for five duplex apartments in the attic of this individually protected landmark building originally built in 1883. All five units' overall net floor space is approximately 600 sq m. The wing overlooking Andrássy Avenue is to house three duplex units in a way that the roof level between the center- and streetside-bearing walls remains unchanged. One of the most significant concepts of the entire development project is the visual relationship between these apartments and the street front. Lighting is ensured using a row of windows installed horizontally along the facade, just above the principal cornice, and a glass-covered zone running along the roof plane behind the facade. The side wings allow for the establishment of one apartment each, both of them being duplex units, albeit with significantly smaller upper levels or light-structure installed mezzanines. Sizeable terraces belong to each unit. The owner we were contacted had sold the attic, which remains untouched today. Neither our nor any other concept has been implemented.
