Family house and wine cellar, Budaőrs Kőhegy
Completed
2013
In the heart of Budaörs, a suburban town near Budapest, there stands a barren hill named Kőhegy, around which a few streets still carry the rustic atmosphere of days gone by when the area was known for its vineyards. Those venturing here can discover a range of vaulted cellars and tiny press houses. At one of these tight, locally protected plots, I was tasked with converting an ensemble comprising a twin press house and its matching twin cellars. In addition, a three-bedroom family house had to be designed. With the direct cellar access of the press houses discontinued and a new walkway built, the two cellars were merged into one, and the press house could take on a purely residential role. Thermal comfort is ensured by surface heating and cooling, all powered by a boiler in the basement and solar collectors mounted on top of the garage, supplemented by a heat pump installed.
