Apartment conversion, Budapest, XI. district
Completed
2008
My task was to complete the conversion of the approximately 100-sq-m apartment and its 25-sq-m terrace, including building mechanicals and electricals and interior and furniture design. The final result forms an organic cohesion with the turn-of-the-century modern condominium constructed nearly 100 years earlier. The conversion was highly wasteful and with a lesson learned. An unreasonably overpriced Buda location, a radical conversion, and the use of quality materials - not to mention the purchase of the property - compelled the owner to rely excessively on debt financing. However, a few years after the conversion, the family saw their living standards no longer sustainable due to Hungary’s FX lending crisis. They had to sell, and the new owner converted the property again.
