Reconstruction facade, Budapest, Krúdy street
Completed
2014
Junction of Krúdy Gyula utca and Mikszáth tér, in a neighborhood locally known as Palotanegyed (literally Palace Quarter), at the heart of Budapest's District VIII. When working with this 103-year old, protected condominium building, I was responsible for the facade from re-designing to the permit procedure, as well as for defining the restoration and replacement processes by the harmonization of original blueprints with new element designs. The heavily deteriorated facade represented an approach simpler than originally planned, with a far more intense horizontal flow and less ornamentation. In its unidimensional nature, it feels much like a passive stage set. Due to the condominium's financial status, the facade restoration was not realized between 2008 and 2014. For the Christmas of 2014 the renovation finished with the donation of the District 8. The stained glass inserts on the gate and the wrought iron accessories throughout the ground floor are genuine works of applied art.
