Reconstruction facade, Budapest, Újpesti quay 29.
Completed
2022

We were commissioned with the renovation of the main facade of the residential building at Újpest rakpart 29., consisting of a basement, a ground floor, five storeys and a penthouse. The goal was to reconstruct the original condition, or at least the condition considered to be the original. Based on the 1935 plans by architect Sándor Brüll, the modern residential building enriched with Art Deco details was completed in 1936. In Újlipótváros, there are many high-class modern apartment buildings. However, only a few were built on the waterfront, which gives them UNESCO world heritage protection. Accordingly, we were required to submit the plan for review to District XIII and to the chief architect of Budapest. The plan covers the reconstruction or restoration of all original structures made of cast stone or steel, and includes the thermal insulation of non-segmented facade planes. While all the apartments in the building are highly valuable, the penthouse apartment must be among the most valuable properties on the Pest side. Even though the construction was completed in 2022, only the thermal insulation was done, which is professionally unacceptable.
